Young Player Program Guide

Overview

The Young Player Program is an opt-in protection system designed to give brand-new adventurers time to find their footing before the full dangers of New Dawn are upon them. While enrolled, you are shielded from most threats, cannot lose your items on death, and have exclusive access to a safe training dungeon on Ocllo Island.

Protection lasts up to 120 hours of total logged-in play time. The clock only runs while you are online — logging out pauses it.

New Player Welcome

If your account is 7 days old or newer, you will automatically receive a welcome popup the first time you log in. It introduces the Young Program and lets you join with a single click. If you missed it or dismissed it, you can still opt in at any time using the [young command.

The [young Command

Type [young in-game at any time to open your Young Program status gump. From here you can:

  • See your total game time accumulated so far
  • See how many hours remain before the program expires
  • Join the Young Program (if you are eligible)
  • Leave the Young Program (if you wish to graduate early)

Your remaining hours are also displayed as a reminder each time you log in while enrolled.

Benefits While Young

Being enrolled in the Young Program grants the following protections:

No Item Loss on Death

All movable items on your person are moved to your backpack when you die — nothing goes to your corpse. You will never lose your equipment or belongings simply because you died while Young.

Safe Resurrection Location

When you die, you are automatically teleported to the nearest safe healer area near Ocllo. You do not need to wander as a ghost looking for a healer — you will arrive near one ready to be resurrected.

Monster Protection

Inside Ocllo's protected regions, monsters will not attack you unprovoked. They may glare at you menacingly, and you will see an in-game message warning you that you would be under attack if not for your Young status. This protection does not apply if a monster has been directly provoked or set upon you by another player.

Poison Immunity

You are immune to poison while in Ocllo's protected regions (except during an active sanctioned duel). If something would have poisoned you, you will receive a message letting you know.

Instant Logout

There is no logout delay timer while you are Young. You can log out immediately at any time, regardless of combat or location — as long as you are within Ocllo.

Cannot Be Stolen From

Other players cannot steal from you. If someone attempts it, they will be told they cannot steal from a Young player.

Access to the Ocllo Sewer

Young players have exclusive access to the Ocllo Sewer dungeon — a purpose-built training area for new adventurers. Non-Young players cannot freely enter. See the Ocllo Sewer PvP note below for important caveats about safety inside.

Restrictions While Young

In exchange for its protections, the Young Program comes with the following limitations:

You Must Stay on Ocllo Island

Young status is tied to Ocllo Island. The protection covers three zones:

  • The town of Ocllo
  • The wilderness surrounding Ocllo
  • The Ocllo Sewer dungeon

If you leave any of these zones and enter any other region in the world, your Young status is immediately and automatically removed. A dialog will appear explaining what happened. You may be eligible to rejoin — see Rejoining the Program below.

Cannot Cast Beneficial Spells on Non-Young Players

You may not cast helpful spells (heals, cures, buffs) on players who are not enrolled in the Young Program.

Cannot Recall or Gate to Felucca

Young players cannot use Recall or Gate Travel to travel to Felucca. You will receive a message that you decide against it while still Young.

Cannot Use Pirate Instance Moongates

Pirate Instance moongates that would take you outside of Ocllo are blocked while you are Young.

Cannot Steal from Players or Monsters

Young players may only practice Stealing on chests and barrels. Attempting to steal from other players or creatures will be blocked.

Crafting Skills Capped at 80.0

The following crafting skills will cause your Young status to be automatically removed if they reach 80.0:

  • Tailoring
  • Blacksmithing
  • Carpentry
  • Cooking
  • Alchemy
  • Inscription

This is by design — reaching that level in a trade skill signals that you have established yourself in the world.

How Young Status Is Removed

Young status ends the moment any of the following conditions are met:

Trigger Details
Time expires Your total game time reaches 120 hours
Skills threshold Your combined total skill points reach 4,500
Crafting skill cap Any of the listed crafting skills reaches 80.0
Player kill You gain a murder count by killing another player
Leaving Ocllo You enter any region outside the three Ocllo zones
Manual renounce You click "Leave Young Program" in the [young gump

When status is removed automatically (such as by leaving Ocllo), a dialog box will appear on screen explaining what happened. If you left Ocllo by accident, use [young to check if you are still eligible to rejoin.

Leaving Ocllo is immediate and permanent for that session

The moment you step outside Ocllo's protected regions, your Young status is removed. There is no grace period or warning before it happens. If you intend to stay Young, do not leave the island.

Rejoining the Program

If you left the Young Program voluntarily or accidentally, you may be able to rejoin via the [young command by clicking "Join Young Program", provided you meet all of the following:

Requirement Limit
Total game time Must still be under 120 hours
Total skill points Must still be under 450
Rejoins per character Maximum of 3 times
Rejoins per account Maximum of 3 times across all characters on the account

When you rejoin, you are teleported back to Ocllo to resume your time under the program's protection.

A Note on PvP in the Ocllo Sewer

The Ocllo Sewer is designed as a safe training space for new players and is accessible to Young players under normal circumstances. However, it is not a fully consequence-free zone when it comes to other players:

  • Criminals (flagged as criminal) can be attacked inside the Sewer
  • Murderers (players with 5 or more long-term kills) can be attacked inside the Sewer
  • Players in active combat exchanges — if someone has attacked you or you have attacked them, normal PvP rules apply

In practice, the Sewer is safe from random aggression by strangers. Just be aware that if you start a fight, or someone flagged as a criminal or murderer is present, combat is possible.
