What's Different from Classic UO?

New Dawn builds on the classic Ultima Online foundation while introducing meaningful changes and custom systems. This guide helps veteran UO players quickly understand what makes New Dawn unique.

Overview

  • Single Felucca facet (full PvP)
  • 700 skill points / 225 stat points
  • Classic skills with some modifications

Account

  • Each player has three accounts.
  • Only one account allowed per dungeon.
  • Multi-client PvP is blocked.
  • One house per account, 30 days decay timer, see Housing page.
  • Two boats per account, 14 days decay timer.

Miscellaneous

  • Horses can be tamed regardless of skill.
  • All players start with one bond slot. It takes 24 hours to bond a pet. Bonded pets can recall with you. Tamers can acquire more slots with the Animal Bonding Quest.
  • You can resurrect your dead pet at any stable. Single‑click the Veterinarian NPC and select "Resurrect Pet."
  • There's no light filter, so the world looks (and feels) properly dark at night. Don't worry, you will get used to it in no time, you can buy Nightsight potions or use the Night Sight spell, they will last a long time.
  • Dungeons have a 50% skill boost gain, except for crafting skills.
  • When you set a skill pointing down it will decrease at the same time as you gain on a skill pointing up, you don't have to wait to be at skill cap to lower a skill.
  • Recall charges inside a runebook don't require magery.
  • You can't recall in or out of dungeons, instead, there are exit gates spread around.
  • Spellbooks can only be crafted.
  • Runebooks can be blessed using Codex fragments and Codex Bindings.
  • To avoid unattended gathering, all resource gathering activities will trigger the AFK captcha gump.
  • Instead of Dex penalty when wearing armor, you instead lose stamina when taking melee damage, based on the armor you're wearing.
  • All monsters and animals have a chance to drop their own statue, and an even rarer chance for that statue to be bronze.
