Create your own equipment, tools, and items through the various crafting systems in New Dawn.
Crafting Overview¶
Crafting in UO allows you to:
- Create equipment for yourself and others
- Make money selling crafted goods
- Be self-sufficient
- Provide services to the community
Main Crafting Professions¶
Blacksmithy¶
Create metal armor and weapons.
Key Features:
- Smelt ore into ingots
- Forge weapons and armor
- Repair metal equipment
- Bulk Order Deeds (BODs)
Resources:
- Iron ore/ingots
- Colored ores (if available)
- Forge and anvil access

Tailoring¶
Create cloth and leather armor and clothing.
Key Features:
- Craft leather and studded armor
- Make clothing and robes
- Create bandages
- BOD system
- Tailoring Guild access at 85.1 skill
- Dungeon dye system at GM skill
Resources:
- Cloth, leather, hides
- Colored leather (if available)
- Scissors, sewing kit
- Dungeon materials (for dyes)

Tailoring Guild & Dungeon Dyes¶
New Dawn features a unique tailoring dye system:
Joining the Tailoring Guild:
- Requires 85.1+ Tailoring skill
- Speak to the Tailoring Guildmaster
- Grants access to special dye crafting
Crafting Dungeon Dyes:
- Reach 100 Tailoring (GM)
- Pay guildmaster 10,000 gold
- Receive a Tailors Dye Kit
- Farm 250 dungeon-specific materials (drops from mobs in that dungeon - Patch 0.45)
- Crush materials and use with the kit
- Creates one bottle of dye with unique dungeon hue
Dye Usage:
- Each bottle has one use
- Can dye any cloth item
- Each dungeon has a unique color
- Stackable materials for storage
Dungeon Dye Materials:
- Drop from creatures in specific dungeons
- 0.5% drop chance (Patch 0.34)
- Stackable for easy transport
- Required amount: 250 per dye bottle
Carpentry¶
Work with wood to create furniture and items.
Key Features:
- Build furniture
- Create wooden weapons
- Make house addons
- Construct boats (if available)

Alchemy¶
Brew potions and elixirs.

Scribe spell scrolls and create runebooks.

Regular vs Exceptional¶
- Regular: Standard quality items
- Exceptional: Better stats, higher value
Exceptional Chance:
- Increases with skill
- 100% at GM skill (server dependent)
- Exceptional = better stats

Metals:

What are BODs?¶
Special crafting quests from NPCs:
- Request specific items
- Turn in for rewards
- Earn special resources
- Get rare items

New Dawn BOD System¶
New Dawn features a points-based reward system for BODs:
Key Features:
- BODs show their point value when you view them
- BODs show "(complete)" when all requirements are met
- BOD books are no longer blessed (can be lost on death)
- BOD timer resets after you turn in a BOD
Checking BOD Value:
- Small and Large BODs display point values
- Points determine reward tier
- Complete BODs before turning in for best results
Tailoring BOD Rewards¶
Small BOD Rewards:¶
- 1 point: 80 uncut cloth (hues: 1155, 1164, 1160, 1162)
- 50 points: 60 uncut cloth (hues: 1173, 1163, 1158, 1157)
- 100 points: 40 uncut cloth (hues: 1165, 1168, 1166, 1169)
- 150 points: 20 uncut cloth or low chance sandals (90/10 split, various hues)
- 200 points: 10 uncut cloth or better chance sandals (80/20 split, various hues)
Large BOD Rewards:¶
- 300 points: 1 of 4 random stretched hides
- 350 points: Ore mask dye tier 3 (dull, copper, bronze)
- 400 points: 1 of 4 random tapestries
- 450 points: Bear or polar bear rug
- 500 points: 1 of 4 random tailoring shelves
- 550 points: Clothing bless deed OR low chance sandals (80/20)
- 600 points: Ore mask dye tier 2 OR special mask dye tier 2 (80/20, agapite/verite)
- 650 points: Tailoring powerscroll +5
- 700 points: Ore mask dye tier 1 OR special mask dye tier 1 (80/20, shadow iron/gold/valorite)

Resource Gathering¶
Mining¶
Extract ore for blacksmithing:
- Iron ore (everywhere)
- Colored ores (specific mountains)
- Gems (bonus)
- 3-tile range (Patch 0.49 - increased from 1 tile)
Lumberjacking¶
Harvest wood for carpentry:
- Regular logs (all trees)
- Special woods (specific forests)
- 3-tile range (increased for convenience)
Special Wood Types:
- Oak: Rare drop with bark fragments/brilliant amber
- Ash: Rare drop with bark fragments/brilliant amber
- Yew: Rare drop with bark fragments/brilliant amber
- Tree yield increased but fewer logs per chop
- Logs properly labeled by type
Skinning/Harvesting¶
Get leather from creatures:
- Kill animals
- Use bladed weapon on corpse
- Collect leather/hides
Farming & Gardening¶
New Dawn features an extensive farming system (see Gardening for complete details):
Plant Cultivation:
- Seeds drop from animals that eat seed-bearing plants
- Fertile dirt from animals that spend time in dirt (boars, etc.)
- Plant seeds in fertile dirt
- Wait for growth
- Harvest when mature
Cotton & Flax Farming:
- Wild cotton/flax fields across Britannia
- Young player cotton (young-status only)
- Resource captcha checks during farming
- Renewable resources
Sheep Farming:
- Outdoor sheep: Wool every 2 hours
- Indoor sheep: Wool production based on hunger level
- Well-fed (18-20 food): 1.5 hours
- Satisfied (10+ food): 2 hours
- Peckish (5+ food): 6 hours
- Hungry (2 food): 8 hours
- Starving: 12 hours
- Stacked sheep don't produce wool
- Must maintain proper feeding and space
