Overview

Archery allows you to fight from a distance using bows and crossbows. This skill excels at kiting enemies and provides a significant safety advantage.

Ammunition Management

Always carry plenty of ammunition. Running out mid-combat can be fatal!

Training

Early Training (0-30)

  • Training dummy practice
  • Learn accuracy basics
  • Minimal cost

Intermediate (30-50)

  • Hunt animals (bears, great harts)
  • Practice moving while shooting
  • Work on kiting

Advanced (50-70)

  • Mid monsters at range
  • Perfect kiting technique
  • Join ranged hunting groups

Master Level (70-100)

  • Difficult monsters
  • PvP archery
  • Champion spawns

Range Benefits

  • Fight from safe distance
  • Avoid melee damage

  • Kite dangerous enemies

Kiting Strategy

  1. Shoot target
  2. Run away while they approach
  3. Shoot again when in range
  4. Repeat until enemy dies

Kiting Tips

  • Keep moving
  • Use terrain to your advantage
  • Watch stamina carefully
  • Pre-poison arrows for extra damage

Poisoning Synergy

Archery pairs excellently with poisoning:

  • Apply poison to ammunition
  • Poison from safe distance
  • No need for melee contact
  • Very effective in PvP

Weapon Special Moves

To help make archers more viable, the shooting delay was reduced to 500ms. However, they remained underpowered due to lack of a special ability. Archers now have the snare ability.

  • Requires at least 80 anatomy and 80 archery
  • Double-click your equipped bow to toggle snare
  • 25% chance to ensnare at 100 anatomy and 100 archery
  • Each attempt (failed or successful) uses 15 stamina when active

After a successful snare:

  • The snared target cannot move (but can still attack and cast spells) for 3 seconds
  • The snared target will have any spell they were casting disrupted
  • The archer cannot snare another target for 20 seconds

Equipment Considerations

Weapon Choice

  • Speed - Faster = more shots
  • Damage - Damage per shot
  • Range - Maximum distance
  • Requirements - STR/DEX needed

Armor

Light armor recommended:

  • Maintains mobility
  • Less dexterity penalty
  • Better for kiting
  • Leather or studded ideal
