Core Magic Skills¶
Magery¶
The primary spellcasting skill in Ultima Online.
Spell Circles:
- First Circle (10-20 skill) - Basic utility spells
- Second Circle (20-30 skill) - More utility, minor combat
- Third Circle (30-40 skill) - Teleport, combat spells
- Fourth Circle (40-50 skill) - Greater healing, recall
- Fifth Circle (50-60 skill) - Blade spirits, paralyze
- Sixth Circle (60-70 skill) - Invisibility, dispel field
- Seventh Circle (70-80 skill) - Gate travel, mass curse
- Eighth Circle (80+ skill) - Earthquake, resurrection
Training:
- 0-30: Cast low circle spells repeatedly
- 30-50: Teleport around, cast utility spells
- 50-70: Cast combat spells in dungeons
- 70-100: High circle spells, meditation between casts
Reagents Required:
- Black Pearl, Blood Moss, Garlic
- Ginseng, Mandrake Root, Nightshade
- Spider's Silk, Sulfurous Ash

Evaluating Intelligence¶
Increases magic damage and spell effectiveness.
Effects:
- Boosts spell damage
- Better spell success rate
- Defensive benefit against spells
Training:
- Cast Evaluating Intelligence on creatures
- Passive gains during spell combat
Importance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Essential for combat mages)
Meditation¶
Regenerate mana faster.
Effects:
- Active mana regeneration
- Must be stationary
- Cannot be wearing metal armor
- Higher skill = faster regeneration
Training:
- Use skill when low on mana
- Gains when successfully meditating
Importance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Essential for mages)
Note: Interrupted by movement and taking damage
Resisting Spells¶
Defense against hostile magic.
Effects:
- Resist spell effects
- Reduce magic damage
- Prevent paralysis/poison
- Shorter duration on debuffs
Training:
- Get hit by hostile spells
- Have friend cast on you
- Fight enemy mages
Importance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Essential for all templates)
Support Magic Skills¶
Inscription¶
Create spell scrolls and enhance spellbooks.
Benefits:
- Craft spell scrolls
- Increased spell damage (if wearing scribed spells)
- Create runebooks
- Slayer spellbooks
Training:
- Scribe low circle scrolls (0-30)
- Progress through circles
- Make runebooks at high skill
Pairs Well With: Magery, Alchemy
Spirit Speak¶
Alternative mana regeneration (if Necromancy enabled).
Effects:
- Mana regeneration over time
- Works in armor
- Can be used while moving
Training:
- Use skill near corpses
- Passive gains during use
Mysticism¶
Alternative magic school (if enabled).
Effects:
- Unique spell set
- Different from standard magery
- Special abilities
Check with server: May not be available on all shards

Combat Strategies¶
PvM (Player vs Monster)¶
Basic Rotation: 1. Open with Curse/Weaken 2. Cast Energy Bolt/Flamestrike 3. Follow up with Lightning 4. Heal when needed 5. Summon Blade Spirits for help
Advanced:
- Pre-cast spells (store spell)
- Kiting with teleport

PvP Maging
PvP maging has a high skill ceiling. Practice timing and spell combinations!

- Organize by type in containers
- Use blessed reagent bags (if available)
- Keep extra stock at bank
- Buy in bulk for discounts
Costs¶
Reagents are consumed on cast:
- Failed casts still consume reagents
- Higher circle = more reagents
- Keep well stocked for extended hunts

- Macro low circle spells to 30
- Progress through circles systematically
- Cast in town (safe, near reagent vendors)
