Pre-Age of Shadows System

New Dawn uses a traditional Pre-AoS weapon system. Weapons have straightforward damage ranges and speed without modern properties like resistances, skill bonuses, or luck. Focus on base damage, speed, and material quality.

Weapon Types

Swords

Swordsmanship Skill Required

  • Longsword: Balanced damage and speed
  • Broadsword: Moderate damage
  • Katana: Fast, lower damage
  • Viking Sword: Good all-around
  • Halberd: Two-handed, high damage

Damage Type: Physical/Slashing


Fencing Weapons

Fencing Skill Required

  • Kryss: Fast, popular
  • Dagger: Very fast, low damage
  • War Fork: Balanced
  • Spear: Two-handed reach

Damage Type: Physical/Piercing


Maces

Mace Fighting Skill Required

  • Mace: Standard crushing
  • War Mace: Heavy hitter
  • Maul: Slow, powerful
  • War Hammer: Good balance
  • Club: Basic weapon

Damage Type: Physical/Bashing Bonus: Extra damage vs. undead


Archery

Archery Skill Required

  • Bow: Standard ranged
  • Crossbow: Slow, high damage
  • Heavy Crossbow: Highest damage

Ammunition:

  • Arrows (bows)
  • Bolts (crossbows)

Weapon Qualities

Weapons in New Dawn have traditional qualities:

  • Damage Range: Each weapon has a base damage range
  • Speed: How quickly the weapon swings
  • Accuracy: Weapon type affects hit chance
  • Material Bonus: Better materials increase durability and damage

Weapon Materials

Metals

Higher tier metals provide increased durability and damage:

  • Iron: Standard material
  • Dull Copper: Enhanced durability
  • Shadow Iron: Improved damage
  • Copper: Better quality
  • Bronze: Enhanced properties
  • Gold: Increased damage
  • Agapite: Superior quality
  • Verite: Exceptional quality
  • Valorite: Legendary quality

Traditional Crafting

Blacksmiths can craft weapons from these materials, with higher tier metals producing more durable and damaging weapons.

Choosing a Weapon

Consider:

  1. Your Skill: Match weapon to your combat skill (Swords, Fencing, Maces)
  2. Speed vs. Damage: Fast weapons for more hits, slow weapons for bigger hits
  3. Requirements: Ensure you have enough STR to wield it
  4. Material Quality: Higher tier materials last longer and hit harder
  5. Situation: Different weapons excel in PvP vs. PvM
