Coin Collecting

Britannia's money has a history, and some of it is still buried. Treasure chests can hold old coins, tokens and banknotes from three eras of Britannian history. Collect them all in a Coin Collector's Book.

Finding pieces

  • Any dug treasure chest can hold a piece. The higher the map level, the better your odds
  • A chest holds at most one piece. When it does, you'll see "Something small glints among the treasure."
  • Some issues turn up often; a few have been seen only a handful of times

Where you dig matters

  • Pieces tend to surface near the towns that issued them. Dig near Jhelom for Jhelom money
  • Pirate money gathers around Buccaneer's Den
  • Harbor coins turn up near the coast
  • Royal Mint, Gargoyle and Orc pieces can turn up anywhere

Varieties

Collectors know that many issues also exist in rarer varieties: specimen strikes, misprints, clipped coins and stranger things. The catalog doesn't list them; you'll know one when you find it.

Single-click a piece to see its era and, if it has one, its variety.

The Coin Collector's Book

Bankers sell the Coin Collector's Book for 1,000 gold.

  • Drop a piece onto the book while the book is in your backpack to mount it. Mounting is permanent, and the piece can't be taken back out
  • The book won't take a piece it already holds. A variety counts as a separate piece from the plain issue
  • Double-click the book to browse the catalog: every issue, its history, and which pieces you hold
  • The book shows "Varieties of this issue are known to exist" for issues with varieties, but never names a variety until you've mounted it

Tip

The book is your collection, not your character's. Trade it, display it or guard it: the collection travels with the book.

In the century after the war, the surviving towns each tried a coinage of their own. One by one they struck a final "Last Strike" and went over to the common gold coin used everywhere today, since no crown remained to mint for the whole realm. 46 issues.

Some towns struck nothing in this era. Cove is held by orcs. Delucia and Papua were cut off when the Codex was destroyed. Nujel'm vanished.
