Stealing

Stealing

Overview

Stealing allows you to take items from other player's backpacks and NPCs. A high-risk, high-reward skill that enables thief gameplay. Server rules vary significantly for thievery.

If you are not in the Thieves guild you can only steal from NPCs, guild mates, opponents of a warred guild, greys, reds and members of the thieves guild.

The higher the armor rating you wear, the harder it is to steal.

Starting items if you choose this skill in character creation: Lockpicks.

Thieves guild

You can join the Thieves guild by using the command [NPC name] join and paying a fee of 5.000 gold to a Grandmaster Thief NPC.

To join you must have at least 60 Stealing, your character must be 7 days old, have played for at least 48 hours and have no murder counts.

Once you are in the guild, you can steal from innocent players.

If you are reported for murder you will be kicked out of the guild for a week.

Members of the guild cannot report murders.

Disguise kit

Once in the guild you will be able to purchase a Disguise kit for 700 gold, use the command [NPC name] buy disguise kit. and drop the gold on the Grandmaster Thief NPC.

Using the Disguise kit will prompt you to choose a new hair and/or facial hair style, when done, you will be given a random new name.

The new hair/facial hair style doesn't retain the color of your current one, and they will both be white.

The disguise will last for 2 hours, after that you will return to your normal name and appearance. The timer keeps running even when logged off and dying will revert you back to normal.

Criminal status

When you steal from another player there are three possible outcomes.

  1. Success, you successfully steal the item and go unnoticed, in this case you will remain blue but be permagray. Being permagray means that your name is still blue but other players can still attack you, this status resets only on death.

  2. Partial success, you successfully steal the item but are noticed by a player or NPC, in this case you will get a criminal flag and turn gray. If in town, guards may be called on you. If the player you have stolen from attacks you, and you kill him, you will get a murder count. When the criminal flag wears off you will return blue but permagray.

  3. Failure, you fail to steal. You may also turn gray.
