Market Stalls

The market in Ocllo has counters for rent. Rent one and you can set up an ordinary player vendor there, just as if it stood in a house you own: same vendor, same wages, same pricing and shop name. No house required.

There aren't many stalls, so they go to traders. To keep yours, you pay the rent and keep it trading: new goods on the counter and sales to other players. A stall that stops trading is warned, put on notice, and then cleared. Your goods are never lost: whatever happens, they go to your bank box.

Finding a stall

Each stall has a sign hanging on its counter. Single-click the sign to see what it's doing:

The sign says What it means
[Shop Name] and Run by <vendor> Rented and open for business
A market stall, being set up Rented, but the vendor isn't there yet
Stall for rent - 5,000 gp/week Vacant
Stall reserved Held for someone whose name was drawn from the waitlist

Double-click a sign from within 3 tiles to rent it, join the waitlist, or, if it's yours, manage it.

Getting a stall

If a stall is vacant and nobody is waiting, you can rent it on the spot. Double-click the sign and press Rent it.

Otherwise, join the market waitlist. Double-click any stall's sign and press Join the waitlist. There's one waitlist for the whole market.

  • When a stall frees up, a name is drawn at random from the waitlist straight away. There's no set time when stalls come free, so there's no point camping a sign
  • Your place on the waitlist lasts 30 days. Renew it at any sign to keep it
  • If your name is drawn, you're sent a message in game and on Discord. You have 72 hours to double-click that stall's sign and accept. Accepting pays the first week's rent
  • If you turn it down or don't answer in time, the stall goes to the next name drawn

You can hold one stall per person, across all your characters and accounts.

Rent

Rent is 5,000 gold a week. It comes out of your bank box first, then out of the gold in your backpack.

  • Your rent renews itself each week while you have the gold. You can switch auto-renew off from the stall's sign
  • You can pay up to 4 weeks ahead from the sign
  • If the rent can't be paid, you get 3 days of grace to pay it at the sign. After that, the stall is cleared

Rent is separate from your vendor's own wages. The vendor still charges its daily fee, just as it would in a house.

Setting up shop

  1. Bring a contract of employment in your backpack. Bankers and innkeepers sell them
  2. Double-click your stall's sign and press Place vendor. The vendor appears on the stall's vendor tile, facing out over the counter
  3. Stock it and price it as you would any vendor

You have 72 hours from taking the stall to have a vendor there with at least 5 items for sale.

Your vendor always faces the street, so it won't turn when you say vendor cycle. Everything else works the same as a vendor in your house.

The display

Press Choose a display for the counter to set out a prop on your stall's counter that shows passers-by what you sell. You can change it once a day.

A crate of ingots Smithing
A crate of ore Mining

You can also leave the counter bare.

Keeping your stall

A stall is for trading. Once a week, on the anniversary of the day you took it, your stall has to show all three of these:

Check What it takes
Restocking At least 3 new items listed in the last 14 days, worth at least 5,000 gold together
Selling At least 1 sale to another player in the last 28 days
Stock At least 5 items for sale
  • A new item is one your vendor hasn't had for sale before. Changing a price or relisting an item doesn't count. An item has to be up for a few minutes before it counts, so its price is the one you settled on
  • A sale to another player means another person, not one of your own characters
  • The first check comes 2 weeks after you take the stall, so you have time to get going

Double-click your sign to see where you stand. The Trading section shows each check as met or needed, and when the next check is.

Falling behind

  1. Miss one check: you get a warning, in game and on Discord
  2. Miss the next one too: your stall is put on notice for 7 days. You're reminded every 2 days
  3. Still not trading when the notice ends: the stall is cleared

The moment your stall passes again, the warning or notice is lifted. Losing a stall this way takes about three weeks of not trading.

Away mode

Going away for a while? Press Go away for 14 days on your sign. While you're away, the weekly checks are paused, your vendor keeps selling, and the rent keeps renewing. Press I'm back to end it early. When away mode ends, your next check picks up with the time it had left when you went away, but never less than 3 days.

You can use away mode once every 60 days, but not while your stall is on notice.

Leaving a stall

You can give your stall up at any time from its sign. A stall is also cleared if:

  • It stops trading, as above
  • The rent goes unpaid after the 3 days of grace
  • It has no vendor with at least 5 items for sale within 72 hours, either after you take it or after your vendor leaves

If you dismiss your vendor, or it quits because its wages ran out, its goods go to your bank box. You then have 72 hours to place a new vendor.

When a stall is cleared:

  • Your vendor's goods arrive in your bank box as a bag labelled Stall goods, with the shop name and the date. This works even if your bank box is full
  • The gold your vendor was holding goes to your bank
  • If you gave the stall up, it was cleared for not trading, or it had no vendor in time, any whole weeks of rent you paid ahead are refunded
  • The stall goes to the next name drawn from the waitlist

After that, you have to wait before you can take a stall or join the waitlist again:

Why you left Wait
Cleared for not trading 30 days
Gave it up, unpaid rent, or no vendor in time 7 days

Messages while you're away

Anything important about your stall, such as a winning draw, a warning, a notice, or the stall being cleared, is sent to you on Discord. If you're offline, it's also waiting for you the next time you log in.
