Sea Encounters¶
Deep water is no longer a quiet place to fish. Fish from the deck of your boat in Felucca's deep water long enough, and something will come out of the fog to meet you.
How it works¶
- Every cast from a boat's deck over Felucca's deep water raises your sea danger. A short stretch of fishing is safe; after that, each cast makes an encounter a little more likely
- The sea warns you first. Watch for messages like "A fog bank gathers along the horizon" or "You catch the creak of timbers that are not your own."
- When a ship comes, it sails up beside you, drops anchor, and throws a boarding line onto your deck. Double-click the line to swing across, and use the line on its deck to swing back. Your pets come with you, but you can't swing across while mounted
- Everyone aboard shares the encounter, and everyone's sea danger resets afterward
- Stepping away from fishing for about 15 minutes also lets your sea danger settle
The ships¶
Pirate Raiders¶
A ship flying the skull and bones pulls alongside, grapples your boat, and her crew swing across to board you.
- Their captain guards a trapped chest full of gold and treasure in the hold below
- You can't raise anchor until the captain is dead
Distressed Fisherman¶
A battered fishing boat whose hold has been overrun by rats and something worse in the bilge.
- There's no deck crew, so you can head straight down into the hold
- Clear the hold, then talk to the fisherman. He gives everyone who helped a rare catch: a rare fishing item, or sometimes a new rare fish
Derelict¶
A silent ship with no one at the helm and trapped crates below.
- Bring lockpicks: the crates are locked as well as trapped, and loose gold is scattered in the hold
- Something is waiting in the bilge water, so watch your step
Ghost Ship¶
A spectral crew guards the deck, and their captain sits on a pirate's hoard below.
- Sometimes there's a pirate rare in the hold: a Ship in a Bottle, a Weathered Ship Wheel, a Pirate's Spyglass or a Barrel of Rum
Pirate Raiders are the most common sight. Ghost Ships are rare.
Things to know¶
- You only reach a ship's hold after you've cleared her deck crew, including anyone who swung across onto your boat
- Encounter ships can't be steered or claimed
- Encounter ships don't stay forever. You get a warning before one weighs anchor, and anyone still aboard is put back on their own boat
- Once the encounter is won, the ship starts to sink. You have two minutes to get off, and anything left aboard or in her hold goes down with her
Warning
Loot the hold before you leave. Once the last player is off a beaten ship, she sinks right away.
🎃 The Phantom Fleet¶
Creatures in the Halloween rifts sometimes drop a Phantom Fleet chart marked with a spot at sea. It's super rare from rift creatures, and mini-bosses drop one far more often.
- Single-click the chart to see the X, Y it's marked at
- Sail to the mark. Then, standing on the deck of your own boat in deep water, double-click the chart to call one of four haunted ships
- Charts only work while the Phantom Fleet sails during the Halloween Rift Season. They don't expire, so you can save one for next year
- No running. While a Phantom ship's boss lives, your boat stays at anchor
- Each Phantom ship's hold also has a trapped treasure chest
The fleet¶
| Ship | Boss |
|---|---|
| Dead Pirate Ship | Captain Hollowmere the Drowned |
| Zombie Sailor Ship | Bosun Blackgut the Bloated |
| Bone Ferry | The Ferryman of the Last Crossing |
| Pumpkin Head Ship | Old Jack, the Headless Helmsman |
- Captain Hollowmere the Drowned. He fades into the fog and steps out right beside you. Keeping your distance won't help.
- Bosun Blackgut the Bloated. He spews bubbling bilge around a player, and it bursts into poison. Move away fast, though there's little room in the hold.
- The Ferryman of the Last Crossing. He hooks whoever hangs back and drags them to his side. When he's badly hurt, he raises the drowned.
- Old Jack, the Headless Helmsman. He lobs lit jack-o'-lanterns that hiss for a moment and then burst into flame.
Soul Coins¶
Each Phantom Fleet boss drops 8 to 12 Soul Coins. Spend them with Mortlake the wreck warden at the Phantom Fleet Exchange on lanterns, grim decorations, and ship flags and stains in each haunted ship's colors.
